On Saturday 8th June 2024, we worked under The Complicated String CO and Eventu on the pontoon stage at Reading Borough Council’s 35th Water Fest. Our main responsibility was maintaining a timely transition between artists to ensure that we ran on schedule. Whilst our colleagues mixed the sound from the canalside, we helped the bands get set up, get plugged in and get mic’ed up so that everyone could hear their wonderful music performances!

This pontoon stage presented unique challenges to all aspects. Our only access was via a raft, so sticking to that schedule was incredibly important. We were able to get power on the pontoon using a set of batteries which kept us going for the whole day. And last but not least, canal boats passing close to the stage would cause feedback, as the sound bounced back into the microphones from the speakers. It was certainly a unique event, but one that we would not hesitate to work again. With some great performances from local names, it was a very pleasant day.
